Modes

Cloud and Local backends, the Auto, Plan and Build chat modes, and the permission levels that decide what the agent may do.

Cloud or Local

The backend is where your conversations and the agent’s runs are kept. Choose it at the top of the window.

  • Cloud keeps them with your HarumAI account, so they are there on any device you sign in to.
  • Local runs the HarumAI engine on your own computer and keeps everything in a database there. It checks your account with HarumAI when it can, and keeps working for up to 7 days without that check. Manage it in Settings, Backend Engine.

Conversations made on one backend stay on that backend.

Chat modes

  • Auto reads each message and picks the right way to answer: a quick explanation, reading an image, or real work in your project.
  • Plan reads your code and writes a plan without changing any file. Approve the plan and the same chat builds it.
  • Build works directly on your project: edits files and runs commands, within your permission level.

Permission levels

The permission level decides what the agent may do without asking:

  • Ask First asks before any tool that changes something.
  • Accept Edits lets file edits through and still asks before commands.
  • Full Access allows everything, including destructive actions. It is never saved: closing HarumAI returns to Ask First.

Each project also has a command sandbox level (Read only, Workspace or Full access) in Edit project. In WSL and over SSH, commands run in a sandbox that can only write inside your project. Edits to Git’s internal files and to HarumAI’s own settings always ask, whatever the level.
